Nova Scotia 4-6 Resources

Welcome to the ‘Grades 4-6 Nova Scotia Section’ of the PASCO / AYVA website!

In 2015 the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) adopted PASCO sensors for grades 4 through 6. By now all grade 4-6 science classrooms across the province of Nova Scotia should be equipped with pasport weather sensors, weather anemometers, general science sensors and SPARKvue.

Within this section you will find a wealth of information and tools designed to help you in getting started with your new sensors.

Download SPARKvue Software for Free

SPARKvue works on Mac & Windows computers, iPads, iPhones, Android tablets and phones
and Chromebooks and the user experience is the same regardless of the platform.

Getting Started With PASCO

Below is an unboxing video that shows the equipment you should receive and how to quickly set it up. Also, an introductory video on SPARKvue software.

About Your PASCO Sensors

Brief introductions to the Weather and General Science Sensors and then two videos showing how both can be used with SPARKvue software.

PASCO Digital Library

Hundreds of free experiments and lab activities. Search by subject and grade level or by specific PASCO products. Download editable student labs, teacher notes with setup instructions, SPARKvue or Capstone software configuration files and more.

What are SPARKlabs & How Do They Work?

Here, Mr. Jerry Delsol, Teacher from Woodland Joint Unified School District, demonstrates the use of PASCO Scientific’s
probeware while doing an exothermic/endothermic reaction experiment using fruit juice and Alka-Seltzer.

This is a great activity for Grade 5 chemical changes!

Try it yourself:

Download this SPARKlab file so you can follow along and then try it on your own: Alka-Seltzer & Juice.spk2.
As with all SPARKlabs you must have the SPARKvue app or software installed to open these files.

Samples of Correlated SPARKlab Templates
Here are three sample templates that correlate to the Nova Scotia curriculum.

SPARKlab Activities

SPARKlabs are interactive, guided lab activities that use PASCO sensors and software. Below are the 15 activities selected for use in Grades 4-6 using your sensors. Activities in marked with an asterisk* represent the extension activities for each grade.
